Our team, led by Baljit Dhadda, was retained in 2013-14 for a Director of Communications & Innovation Networks role within the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) which works across government, business and the research community, to bring organisations together to focus on opportunities, and invest in the development of new technology-based products and services for future markets such as renewable energy, satellite applications, digital technologies and healthcare.

Communications is a key part of the TSB’s engagement strategy in order to bring technology and innovation to market more quickly for UK business.

This is a very senior position which assumes all responsibility for communications, stakeholder management, brand management and reputation management. Our challenge was to identify candidates who brought expert skills in communications with understanding of the commercial value of networks in stimulating business opportunities. Our success was critically dependent on identifying individuals who are market responsive, entrepreneurial and highly strategic.

The calibre and diversity of candidates’ experience on the search-led shortlist included:

    • Significant experience in driving innovation across a range of public/private sector bodies and SMEs and has credible experience in strategizing international business developments

The successful candidate, Linda Wallace, had extensive experience of communications management around a range of commercial challenges such as organisational change programmes, the creation of new commercial functions, new product development and reputation management.. She joined the organisation as Communications Director in July 2014. Her most recent role was Global Communications Director for GlaxoSmithKline in its Consumer Healthcare Division. Prior to that, Linda held senior global communications roles at Aegis Media and Colgate Palmolive.  An experienced communications professional with a broad commercial background, Linda demonstrated the sophistication required to leverage off existing assets/ relationships as well as build on these strengths and sensitivity to the TSB legacy and brand messaging.
