Location: Whitehaven, Cumbria/flexible
Organisation: Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is a non-departmental public body created through the Energy Act 2004 and our mission is to clean up the legacy from the UK’s earliest nuclear sites, safely, securely and with care for people and the environment.
Although our mission remains the same, the way in which we organise ourselves is evolving. Under One NDA, we are transforming how we manage our businesses by building a more efficient and effective nuclear decommissioning innovation capability through increased interaction with universities, other research institutions and the supply chain.
Reporting to the Head of Technology, we require a Head of Research & Development to lead the continued development and implementation of NDA’s R&D strategy and portfolio, ensuring it has the breadth and depth required. With an outstanding track record of delivering complex R&D programmes across industry and academia, combined with a direct insight of accessing innovation funding streams and opportunities for collaboration, you will be a key interface with relevant governement, academia and industry stakeholders, creating alignment with organisational and stakeholder needs.
With an outstanding grasp of the wider strategic context, your foresight and intelligence scanning will build symbiotic relationships across industry partners; furthering technological advancement and know-how to anticipate and shape future development. Your leadership skills will be essential for engaging stakeholders across the NDA group and beyond, representing NDA as a key public funder of nuclear R&D for the UK linking in to broader areas such as the nuclear sector deal and Industrial Strategy. You will also be responsible for the strategy and delivery of NDA’s R&D portfolio and building and leading the NDA team working in this area.
