The scale of our ambition has no limits, having trading successfully since its inception in April 2018, the BD Group is wholly-owned by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and operates as an independent organisation with a private sector governance structure, headed by a non-executive Chair and Board.

Having established commercial and education partnerships and purchased a 20-acre pharmaceutical site on behalf of the Council, we are successfully developing the site as a higher education centre for universities and a high-tech business centre, attracting media companies for both film and television. Barking and Dagenham is one of the East London Growth Boroughs, combined with the Council’s ‘Can Do’ approach to create an area of rapid and dynamic change, it is deemed to be the main growth area in London over the next 20 years with unparallel strategic potential to deliver for its community. 

As a new Non-Executive Board Member, you will have a sound understanding of corporate governance best practice, together with substantial commercial experience in a customer facing environment in either the housing sector or in Facilities Management. Given the scale of our ambition, you will need to be passionate about wanting to make a difference for the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Moreover, your strong value base will put our community at the heart of everything we do.
